Welcome to Barbados
Barbados is the only coral island with white sand beaches. It was the first Caribbean Island to have piped water. Barbados has history, arts, nightlife, fine dining, things to do, and luxury living. Transportation options on the island are a 'breeze' (pun intended). Barbados' people are welcoming and helpful in navigating the island.
Barbados's Regions
On the island of Barbados, there is a total of eleven distinct regions that are referred to as parishes; nevertheless, most people classify the island as having five primary regions.
Bridgetown
When guests arrive at Grantley Adams International Airport, they're likely to see Christ Church which is the first parish. Christ Church, the island's southernmost point and is home to many of Barbados' restaurants, pubs, hotels, and tourist attractions.
Northwest
Holetown in St. James Parish and Speightstown in St. Peter Parish are home to the majority of the island's high-end restaurants and hotels. On Barbados' northernmost tip is St. Lucy parish, a region noted by beautiful seaside scenery, such as Cove Bay and Little Bay. St. Lucy is home to the Harrison Point Lighthouse as well as the Animal Flower Cave.
Bathsheba
Because of its resemblance to Scotland, St. Andrew Parish is known as the "Scotland District." Within its borders lies Farley Hill National Park, the site of such annual music events as Jazz on the Hill and Reggae-on-the-the-Hill. Bathsheba, one of Barbados' most popular destinations, is located in St. Joseph Parish. For the annual Reef Bowl surfing competition, bathers flock to Bathsheba's white-sand beaches.
Southeast
Sir Anthony Eden lived in Villa Nova, a former residence of the late British Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden, in St. John parish to the south. Sunbury Plantation House and Sam Lord's Castle are two more notable historical monuments in St. Philip Parish, which is located on the island's southeast coast.
Central Barbados
In the absence of beaches, St. George and St. Thomas parishes make up for it with historical landmarks and cultural attractions of all kinds. After a slave insurrection in 1818, the Gun Hill Signal Station and Francia Plantation House were built in St. George's parish, which was formerly sugar cane fields. Harrison's Cave, one of the island's most prominent natural attractions, can be found in the parish of St. Thomas.
